Living traditions

Catalunya has its traditions and the people like to celebrate them - there are many occasions for having a fiesta! Here are 3 good examples:

FESTA MAJOR de Gracia
Every district (barrio) of Barcelona has its own Major Celebrations every year which last a couple of days. One of the most beautiful events like this is the Festa Major de Gracia - the streets are decorated by the residents, they sell food and anything imaginable on the streets, and there are loads of free concerts.

And there is room for expressing political beliefs:

ELS CASTELLERS
Also seen at the Festa Major de Gracia - human towers with up to 10 levels. There are different associations competing against each other, it is a recognized sport here.
See how such a castell is built:

CORREFOC
Yet another feature of the Festa Major - a wild procession involving figures and people making a lot of drum noise and fireworks. Nothing for jumpy characters!
