::: Burning forests :::

Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha:


A couple of days ago, 11 people (firefighters and volunteers) die in the attempt of extinguishing a part of the enormous woodfire that has spread across a wide forestal area.

There are currently several large active woodfires in Spain - one of them in the province of Barcelona. Caused by the extreme aridity, but often provoked by human stupidity. A camper accused of being responsible for one of the fires was arrested and can expect years of prison in the worst case. Hundreds of people in close-by villages had to be evacuated. The environmental adviser for the Castilla-La Mancha regional government resigned.

Even though most of the fires are under control now - it will take some days until they will be extinguished entirely. And many hectars of wood will remain destroyed.
